A beautifully illustrated book that shares the most important lessons of all. Barney the Brave Little Crab is cleverly written and can be enjoyed by everyone! I look forward to reading it to the kids at my school.

I congratulate the very talented Terri Sandford on publishing her heart-warming book, Barney the Brave Little Crab. Written in a narrative poetic style, this timeless tale of courage, overcoming challenges, friendships and self-belief, is highly recommended for all ages. The story unfolds through the eyes of its central character Barney, who is a little red crab facing
many challenges. Readers will enjoy the rhythm and rhyme as they eagerly turn each captivating page to discover what happens to Barney and his friends. Jim Maguire’s eye-catching illustrations will have the children exploring every detail in wonder. Barney the Brave Little Crab is also a very useful educational resource as it invites discussions about emotions, challenges, and friendships. After reading this book to my primary school students, they were very keen to share their feelings and connections to various themes in the story. Students also enjoyed discussing their knowledge of sea creatures and experiences associated with them. Exploring the poetic devices, narrative structure and imagery in Terri Sandford’s book led students to a deeper understanding of poetry during English lessons, too. Barney the Brave Little Crab inspired children to be creative when composing their own poems. My copy of Barney the Brave Little Crab written by Terri Sandford and illustrated by Jim Maguire is a treasured addition to my home library and additional copies have been perfect gifts.

Not only is Barney an exciting read but the also the message that is embedded in it is invaluable. For children to cope with many life challenges they may face, they need to know that they are not the only ones. Everyone faces challenges. The Barney story, I believe, is a good example of this. Not only did Barney overcome his self-doubt but his true worth shone for all to see. Through reading Barney children see that everyone can shine but we all don’t shine in the same way. I think it is a great read for children of all ages. As a primary school teacher this book is not only an excellent example of how to get children to discover the joy of reading but also the theme of the book allows for great discussions on a variety of levels.
